Tired of driving to the north end for theatrical entertainment? How about the Centre Stage (the old converted church) on Victoria Road.
Glengarry Glen Ross
Doors Open at 7:30pm, Show at 8:00pm
Written in 1983, David Mamet’s study of competitive capitalism has scarcely dated in our frenziedly consumerist society. But, watching four men engaged in a cut-throat contest to sell dud tracts of Florida land, we see the different faces of human desperation and laugh despite ourselves. Levene is the former top-seller down on his luck and vainly living off past glories. Moss is the abrasive line-shooter whose valid critique of the system is undermined by his attempt to involve his sidekick Aaronow in a shady enterprise. Roma, the new top dog, is also the insecure young opportunist whose only thought is of self. The smell that pervades the play is one of fear, and, by engaging with terrified individuals, Mamet offers a powerful assault on a society where salesmanship becomes too often a form of licensed criminality.
Doug Campbell as Williamson, Vincent Wells as Lingk and Greg Rogers as Baylen
